Parents, purpose, and progress: USTM’s grand meet powers vision for global academic excellence

In a landmark initiative during its Silver Jubilee year, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) hosted the Grand Parents-Management Meet 2025, drawing a powerful crowd of families from across the Northeast. More than just a ceremonial gathering, the event was a strategic dialogue between the university leadership and parents — aligned in their shared goal of shaping USTM into a premier global learning hub.
Held in a packed auditorium brimming with pride and participation, the event opened with a warm welcome from Registrar Anju Hazarika. Setting the tone was Founder Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, who delivered a heartfelt and powerful address:
“Education is a collaborative journey that thrives on students, parents, and teachers moving together. USTM is about academic excellence, but also character, innovation, and holistic development. Your trust fuels our mission.”
Hoque emphasized that the core focus of USTM is student transformation, and thanked parents for being critical partners in that journey.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the PA Sangma International Medical College and Hospital Parents’ Health Card, offering parents long-term healthcare support. Hoque added, “This card is a gesture of our commitment to family well-being — a foundation for educational success.”
Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma echoed the importance of parental involvement, stating, “With parents by our side, USTM will rise to even greater heights.”
The meet also featured an open forum where parents shared insights and feedback. They praised the university’s serene campus, NET success rates, committed faculty, and excellent sports infrastructure. One parent suggested hosting state and national-level games on campus to nurture Olympic-level talent. Another urged broader promotion of competitive exam prep, calling USTM an unmatched platform for student growth and exposure.
Many parents expressed pride in their children’s academic accomplishments and advocated for greater enrollment from Northeast India in the coming academic year — a vision USTM is deeply committed to fulfilling.
Adding global dimension to the event was Professor Marie Mc Andrew from the University of Montreal, Canada, who graced the occasion.
The event closed with Dr. Azmol H. Barbhuiya, Academic Registrar, delivering a Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the parents’ trust, feedback, and continued partnership.
The Grand Parents-Management Meet 2025 wasn’t just a celebration — it was a strategic step forward. It cemented bonds, amplified voices, and reaffirmed USTM’s mission: to build a transformative, inclusive, and globally recognized centre of educational excellence.
