    The State of Meghalaya lost one of its gifted son ‘Padma Shri’ Neil Nongkynrih on the evening of Wednesday at Mumbai, Maharastra.

    Neil was born to Meghalaya former Finance Minister A H Scott Lyngdoh on 9th July, 1970.

    According to family members, Neil Nongkynrih, of passed away about 6 PM today of septic shock brought about by a perforated ulcer, in Mumbai, where he had gone to record an album.

    Nongkynrih searched a group of talented singers from various parts of Shillong and formed the Shillong Chamber Choir in 2001. The Choir rosed to national fame when they won the India’s Got Talent in 2010. He was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri for his noble contributions to arts and music in 2015.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his twitter message recalled Neil Nongkynrih was an outstanding mentor to the Shillong Chamber Choir, which enthralled audiences globally. “I have also witnessed some of their superb performances. He left us too soon. His creativity will always be remembered. Condolences to his family and admirers. RIP.”

    Meghalaya Police in their face book posting said, “We are deeply saddened by the news of untimely demise of Neil Nongkynrih, founder of the famous Shillong Chamber Choir.
    Our heartfelt condolences with Neil’s family, friends and fans in this hour of grief.”

    “Extremely saddened by the demise of Neil Nongkynrih, the founder of Shillong Chamber Choir. He dedicated his life in the pursuit of music,” said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
