    The Sub-Committee on Public Accounts Committee (Garo Hills Sector), Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Shillong held a District Level Review Meeting with the officials of different departments of West Garo Hills District today at Circuit House, Tura. Zenith M Sangma, Chairman, Sub Committee on Public Accounts Committee (PAC) along with other Members of the Committee George B Lyngdoh, MLA Umroi Constituency, Rakkam A Sangma, MLA Siju Rongara and Lazarus Sangma, MLA Chokpot Constituency reviewed the district level review meeting.

    In his introductory address, Zenith M Sangma, MLA and Chairman Sub-Committee on Public Accounts Committee (Garo Hills Sector) informed that the Committee is reviewing the status on the physical progress of various ongoing schemes and projects being implemented by different departments in West Garo Hills district including their financial status and is also identifying ground realities and challenges faced during implementation of the projects, he added.

    During the review meeting, Chief Engineer, MePDCL, Tura M K Chetry informed the committee about the NEC Scheme, Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), Saubhagya, NERPSIP and Ganol Power projects being implemented in West Garo Hills district and caters to about 152701 total number of consumers. Meanwhile, the Additional Chief Engineer, West Garo Hills Gromyko K Marak briefed during the meeting  about the status of the ongoing projects in the district, however, he appraised them that most of the works have been pending due to Covid-19 pandemic, incessant rainfall and unavailability of labourers since the region depends on migrant lablourers, but assured that work will be started as soon as rain subsides, he added.

    Sharing his observation, the Chairman, Zenith M Sangma had advised the PWD Officials to do away with few remaining Semi-permanent bridges in the region and replace with permanent bridge so as to provide improved and sustainable transportation facilities to the people of the region.

    George B Lyngdoh, another Member of the Committee suggested that the officials of the PWD Department should propose for a Soil Testing Laboratory in the district in order to make the process of soil testing easier and to prepare DPR in a proper manner and also to include proper drainage system in order to reduce the damage of roads caused mainly during rainy season.

    Other Members of the Committee, Rakkam A Sangma and Lazarus M Sangma also participated in the discussion during the review meeting. Departments including Forest and Environment, Transport and ERTS Department, Community and Rural Development Department, PHE and Food and Civil Supplies Departments were also reviewed during the day long review meeting.

    Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, Project Director, DRDA Tura C N Sangma, Officials of different departments of the district were among others who attended the review meeting.
