The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the state Assembly on Tuesday asked the Public Works Department to immediately take up repairing the road from Mawphlang to Balat in East Khasi Hills District.

Addressing media persons after a meeting, PAC member Himalaya Shangpliang said the matter relating to the deplorable condition of the road from Mawphlang to Balat particularly from Mawphlang to Weiloi was discussed with the secretary in-charge PWD (Roads).

He said the road is in a really bad shape with hundreds of vehicles plying all the way from Ranikor, South West Khasi Hills including coal trucks.

“I had requested the PWD department to take up immediate repair work and they have assured us and we will see how it goes from here,” Shangpliang added.

The Mawsynram MLA also informed that according to the PWD secretary, there is a proposal for an amount of Rs 50 crore from a scheme.

“They have sent the projection (to the government) but I said that in the immediate circumstances I think that they should take up some repair work of the road because it is causing a lot of inconveniences to the travelers,” he further stated.
