The Meghalaya Police directed the people of Shillong City to avoid overnight parking in public areas which could impede right of way during any emergency situation.

The direction was issued by the East Khasi Hills SP in compliance with the order passed High Court of Meghalaya in the trial of PIL No. 14 of 2023 Dt. 07.02.2024.

The Court directed to restrict dumping of construction materials, carrying out activities on the roadside which poses a serious hazard to the flow of traffic and lives of pedestrians and the overnight parking of vehicles by owners who do not have proper parking space in their premises so that right of way is not impeded.

The SP appealed to the general public to comply with the directions for the safety of other road users and pedestrians.

The co-operation of one and all in the matter will be highly appreciated, said the SP.

However, any violation of the above directions will be viewed seriously and will attract penal provisions of law, he said.
