    Over 6000 metric tons of illegally mined coal was seized in East Jaintia Hills District.

    A Joint Team comprising of an Executive Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, Police Department and DMR officials conducted a raid in the district and during the raid, coal was discovered to be dumped outside the officially inventorized coordinates.

    The coal was seized on the spot by the team and following the seizure, the coal was transported to a Coal India-authorised depot for safe custody.

    As per the assessment report May 9, received from the Divisional Mining Officer a total quantity of approximately 6000 MT of coal has been seized. FIR has been registered under provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR) and further investigation is underway.

    This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District on Saturday.
