Opposition TMC legislator from Nongthymmai Charles Pyngrope on Thursday asked the state government to take adequate steps to stop propaganda against a particular religion.

Moving a zero hour in the Assembly, Pyngrope informed that the request made was related to an incident where one sister Rose Mary of Siju in South Garo Hils was subjected to derogatory remarks and was literally thrown out of the bus in Assam while travelling frm Duhnoi to Goalpara recently.

The incident has caused serious mental agony and harassment to her.

“Harassment of people because they wear a particular dress or (have) religious habits is very disturbing, unheard and uncalled…These incidents take place because of a false narrative and propaganda spread against a particular religion,” he said while requesting immediate action saying “I feel this government should take adequate steps to curb such propaganda…”

In his reply, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that on being informed about the incident, he had immediately taken up the matter with the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He however said that the information received was not sufficient to pursue in official capacity.

“We are waiting for that particular information becase as of now the only information we had is the date and time and location she travelled, we don’t have the bus number or anything that could lead us (to the individuals),” he said.

He also assured to take continued effort to ensure such incident do not happen anywhere in the country.

Sangma said that he will also give a written reply on the matter after getting the information on the incdent.
