The opposition Congress has decided to gear up its preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections in 2023.

A review meeting was convened by the AICC general secretary organization in-charge Venugopal in the presence of Manish Chatrath in New Delhi held on Wednesday, to evaluate the party’s performance in the recently concluded bye elections in Meghalaya.

The meeting was attended by state leaders which include MPCC president Vincent H Pala, CLP leader Mukul Sangma, MPCC working presidents – Ampareen Lyngdoh, Marthon Sangma and James Lyngdoh, AICC secretary incharge Manipur Charles Pyngrope.

The opposition had witnessed a major setback in the just concluded Assembly bypolls when it lost the Mawryngkneng and Rajabala seats to the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and was also defeated by the United Democratic Party (UDP) from Mawphlang.

The meeting unanimously resolved to consolidate on all strengths of the party in order to effectively overcome hurdles and challenges faced by the party in the run up to the state Assembly elections, 2023, said a joint statement issued by Vincent and Mukul.

It said the review meeting resolved to thank the electorate for their support to the INC in the three Assembly constituencies – Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala.

The increase in vote share of the party in these bye elections is an encouraging base for our party and thanks for the support indicated in these results.

The members resolved to immediately prepare the party on a war footing in order to achieve a desirable result.

The party remains united and in one voice, and will face these elections and ensure that the state of Meghalaya is mandated to be governed by a strong, focused and corruption free government post 2023, the statement said.
