The leakage of gas from an underground gas pipeline was brought under control, an official of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) said here on Wednesday.

“The leak from the well flow line from BM#11 to GGS-8 Lakwa in #Assam has been brought under control. The leak was reported at around 10:00 hrs on April 30, 2024. #ONGC Team promptly isolated the line & brought the situation under control,” ONGC said in a post on X.

An underground gas pipeline ruptured at Sonari Disangpani in Charaideo district on Tuesday night leading to a major gas leakage in the area.

The incident caused panic among the local residents, who feared a potential fire outbreak if the gas is not contained.

“If the gas leak is not contained in time, the fear of a fire outbreak is very real,” said a local resident.
