One sustained bullet injuries after being shot by CRPF personnel in North Garo Hills

One person sustained bullet injuries after being accidentally hit by an AK Rifle of a CRPF personnel, who tried to stop a vehicle that tried to run over the night patrolling party at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills district.
The incident took place on Wednesday night.
While the patrolling party of Mendipathar police station & CRPF personnel were conducting duty in front of Pushpa Cloth Store near tri-junction, Mendipathar bazar, suddenly one white colour car B/R. No. AS 01 AM 7750 came in high speed from the direction of Mendipathar PS in rash and negligent manner and tried to run over the CRPF personnel sitting on chair in front of Pushpa Cloth Store.
Seeing the imminent danger, the CRPF personnel ran from the spot to save their lives and then approached the vehicle. However, the driver again moved/accelerated the vehicle in an attempt to run over and escape, police said.
During the incident, on apprehension of danger and on suspicion of being attacked by criminals, the duty party tried their best to stop the said vehicle, but the vehicle tried to escape. Therefore, in self-defense, one of the CRPF personnel cocked his weapon (AK Rifle) and tried to open the door of the vehicle. However while opening the door of the vehicle, the driver again moved/accelerated the vehicle in order to escape. As the vehicle was in motion, the AK Rifle accidentally fired and unfortunately hit one of the occupant of the vehicle namely Neobirth R. Marak (28) of Thapa Darenchi village.
Neobirth R. Marak was sitting on the co-driver seat and due to the accidental firing, he has sustained bullet injuries on his thighs, they said.
Accordingly, the injured person along with the driver of the vehicle namely, Sengrim K. Sangma of Thapa Darenchi village have been immediately taken to Mendipathar PHC for their immediate medical treatment.
“On receipt of their medical reports, it was ascertained that Neobirth R Marak has received injuries on both his thighs.
As per the medical report, the Medical officer has also opined that Neobirth R. Marak has consumed alcohol and he is not able to control himself and due to his injuries, he has been referred to higher health facility for further evaluation and management.
Further, as per the medical examination report of Sengrim K Sangma, he has not received any physical injury but he has consumed high amount of alcohol which is 1.9 g/L BAC (High),” police said.
Further, a large quantity of alcohol bottles were also found in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, police said necessary legal action is being initiated.
