  • One more dies in mushroom poisoning in West Jaintia Hills, death toll rises to 4

    One more person died on Sunday after consuming wild mushrooms in Saphai Village under Laskein C&RD Block in West Jaintia Hills district.

    It may be mentioned here that a total of 11 persons from three families in Saphai turned critically ill after consuming the wild mushrooms they collected from a nearby forest.

    Relatives of the family confirmed that Anna Suchiang (56) passed away at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS). Her husband, Obar Sutnga (70) and Nidawan Kanai (12) are also in critical condition at NEIGRIHMS.

    The other deceased include three minors, Wansalan Suchiang (14), Kitlangki Suchiang (10), and Riwansaka Suchiang (8), who expired in Jowai Civil Hospital and MCH Hospital. Their mother, Jumonlang Suchiang (43), who was referred to Nazareth Hospital in Shillong along with her 11 month old son, are still undergoing treatment.

    Others critically ill include Ribaitki Shadap and Shanmi Chympa, who are undergoing treatment in Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong.
