  • One more COVID-19 death in Meghalaya, 29 new cases detected

    The death toll due to COVID-19 in the state has risen to 17, after a 71-year-old man died at a city hospital on Monday even as 29 new cases were detected, taking the total active cases in the state to 1,457.

    Director of Health Service (MI), Dr Aman War informed that the deceased, Frazier N Sangma (71) of Golflink, Shillong was admitted at the Shillong Civil Hospital on September 1, after he had tested positive during random sampling at Polo the same day.

    “He was symptomatic and died of COVID-19 pneumonia at 8 am on Monday,” he said.

    The Director of Health Services informed of the 29 new cases, five were detected from East Khasi Hills district, three from Ri Bhoi district, three from West Jaintia Hills district, three from East Jaintia Hills district and one each from North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills.

    The break up of the new cases are – East Khasi Hills – two high risk cases, one health worker who is a returnee, one NEIGRIHMS contact and one SARI case.

    In East Garo Hills – one random testing at Rongjeng Market, North Garo Hills – one random testing at Damas Market, South Garo Hills – one random testing at Chokpot, East Jaintia Hills one returnee and one random testing at Khliehriat, West Khasi Hills one returnee, West Garo Hills – all 12 are high risk contacts, West Jaintia Hills – one SARI case, one returnee and one truck driver.

    Dr War also informed that there are four new recoveries, West Khasi Hills – two, East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi one each, taking the total recoveries to 1560.

    The state has so far recorded a total of 3,034 positive cases of which, 1457 (461 are females and 996 are males) are active while 17 have died due to the viral infection.

    The district wise break up of active cases are – East Khasi Hills – 948 (armed and paramilitary forces – 181, others 767), West Garo Hills -186 (armed and paramilitary forces – 104, others – 90), Ri-Bhoi  – 119 ((armed and paramilitary forces – 29, others – 90), East Garo Hills – 98, West Khasi Hills – 30, East Jaintia Hills – 30, South Garo Hills 16, North Garo Hills – 13, West Jaintia Hills – 12, South West Garo Hills – four and South West Khasi Hills – one.

    Till date, a total of 1, 00, 701 samples have been tested of which 97033 were negative while test results of 634 are awaited. There are 33,618 entrants from outside the state.
