  • One fled two arrested with 88.97 kilos of marijuana in East Jaintia Hills

    One drug peddler managed to escape and two other was arrested in East Jaintia Hills District on Sunday afternoon while they were transported 88.97 kilos of Marijuana.

    Police said at around 3:00 PM on Sunday, the Santro was coming from Assam side and apparently proceeding towards Khliehriat side, was signaled to stop at naka checking point at Damcherra, Umkiang, NH-06.

    Police said however, one of the occupant of the vehicle forced himself out of the vehicle and fled away.

    Police informed on checking of the vehicle, ganja was found concealed inside the vehicle and the suspected contraband items were tested and gave positive results for Marijuana and the total weight was found to be 57.828 Kgs.

    The arrested person was identified as Alajit Debbarma (24 yrs) from Noya Bari, Gram-Baikunthapur, P.O-Subalsingh-799211, VILL-Subalsingh. Dist-West Tripura.

    Meanwhile, at around 6:00 Pm on Sunday, one vehicle bearing Registration No. AS-01-AT-6157 (Honda) coming from Assam side and apparently proceeding towards Khliehriat side was signaled to stop at naka checking point at Damcherra, Umkiang, NH-06.

    Further, on checking of the vehicle, ganja was found concealed inside the vehicle and the suspected contraband items tested and gave positive results for Marijuana and the total weight was found to be 31.142 Kgs.

    The arrested person was identified as Pabitra Debbarma (36 yrs) from Kumarribill, P.O-Lefunga, Utter Bodhjungnagar, Kamalghat, West Tripura, Tripura-799210.
