OIL, BPCL join hands to roll out city gas distribution network in Arunachal Pradesh

Oil India Limited (OIL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), both Maharatna public sector enterprises, have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to set up a City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Arunachal Pradesh. The agreement was formalised on August 26 at the BPCL Corporate Office.
The signing took place in the presence of Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman and Managing Director of OIL, and Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries), with additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director of BPCL.
The proposed Joint Venture Company will establish compressed natural gas (CNG) stations and supply piped natural gas (PNG) to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers across Arunachal Pradesh. The project, awarded to the OIL-BPCL consortium during the 12th CGD Bid Round conducted by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), is aimed at expanding access to clean energy and supporting socio-economic development in the state.
Speaking at the signing, OIL CMD Dr. Ranjit Rath said the initiative marked a major milestone in OIL’s efforts to bring reliable and clean energy to the Northeast. He noted that OIL, with its long-standing legacy in hydrocarbon production in Arunachal Pradesh, had already reinforced its role in the region by commissioning the Kumchai-Kusijan gas pipeline last year.
BPCL CMD Sanjay Khanna said the joint venture underscored BPCL’s commitment to clean energy access, particularly in the Northeast. “Together with OIL, we will build a strong City Gas Distribution network to serve households, industries and the transport sector. Arunachal Pradesh holds great potential, and through this initiative, we aim to drive sustainable growth, improve quality of life, and support India’s vision of a gas-based economy,” he said.
