    In the latest traffic management for mitigation of the traffic congestion at Khyndailad and Motphran junctions in Shillong City, the East Khasi Hills District Administration has decided to adopt odd and even numbers plying of public transport vehicles from Monday next.

    According to an order issued by the District Magistrate East Khasi Hills, the public transport vehicles including SPTS buses, SSPTS – maxi cabs and black & yellow local taxis) plying from Kashari Point towards Police Bazaar and Motphran.

    The order informed public transport Vehicles having registration numbers ending with odd digits (1,3,5,7,9) are to ply only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

    While, vehicles having registration numbers ending in even digits (0,2,4,6,8) are to ply only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. However, the restriction will not be applicable on Sundays.

    Every vehicle should only bear a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) and a copy of
    the vehicle’s Registration Certificate should be made available for inspection at any given time, the order said.

    The District Magistrate warned that anyone found driving with tampered number plates shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with relevant provisions of the law, including revocation of driver’s license.

    The order asserted that plying of public transport vehicles waiting at these junctions is creating substantial congestion in these areas and poses a challenge for both traffic management and pedestrian safety.
