With the aim to sensitize about National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme and the newly launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Star Cement Ltd in collaboration with District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai distributed nutritional food and kits on Community Support Scheme for TB patients at Khliehriat Civil Hospital, East Jaintia Hills District on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai Dr. EBV Laloo said that tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious disease that spread from person to person through tiny droplets released into the air through cough and sneezes therefore it is very important that TB patients wear a mask to prevent it from spreading. She added that there is a great risk of spreading the disease to others if tuberculosis patients do not consistently take TB medications.

“People who live or work in areas where TB is Common, Diabetic patients, and persons with HIV have an increased risk of getting infected”, Laloo said. TB patients were also urged to complete their course of treatment, which is essential for overcoming the disease, and to take their TB medications on a regular basis.

Khliehriat Civil Hospital and Sutnga CHC in the district both offer tuberculosis testing, Laloo informed.

KK Borah, Deputy Manager, CSR, Star Cement Ltd informed that through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) nutritional support will be provided to 100 tuberculosis patients in the district for three months.

Earlier the Dalmia Bharat Foundation through CSR has extended support to National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) in Jowai by providing Nutritional food items to 50 TB patients on January 9 last.
