    An NSCN(K-Rebel) cadre was killed and another was captured by the troops of Assam Rifles after a gunfight at Angsa village, in Mon district of Nagaland in the wee hours of Monday.

    “Based on specific intelligence inputs on the movement of the cadres for carrying out abduction and extortion, the troops of 27th Assam Rifles conducted a search operation in the area yesterday night,”. Defence spokesperson Lt Col Amit Shukla said. 

    “The insurgents fired at the troops. The troops also retaliated. In the ensuing firefight, one insurgent has been killed while another has been apprehended,” Shukla said.

    The deceased has been identified as “Private” Akai, a resident of Myanmar.

    The arrested cadre has been identified as Wangsu, a resident of Chatung in Arunachal Pradesh.

    Two grenades, one pistol, one AK 56 Rifles, 60 live bullets, 2 walkie-talkies, objectionable documents, mobile set, bag, dress etc. have been recovered.

    The NSCN (K Rebel) faction was formed under the leadership of Maj Gen Ang Mai from Tangshang Region on June 27, 2023 revolting against the parent group- NSCN(YA).
