MDC from Rongrong constituency Rinaldo K Sangma has slammed the National People’s Party (NPP)-led state government and executive committee in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for allegedly failing to release 40 months pending salary of the council’s staff, contractual doctors, teachers and casual employees in different departments.

In a statement issued here, Rinaldo said, “While the chief minister keeps himself occupied attending extravagant functions doling away crores and crores of government funds to things which are inconsequential, employees of the GHADC and the state government in certain departments languish not being paid salaries for months pushing hundreds of families into unimaginable financial hardship.”

“It is appalling and a matter of grave concern that GHADC employees have not been paid for over 40 months and simultaneously, contractual doctors, teachers under deficit pattern, SSA and under 3F rules, casual employees of certain line departments in the state government have been met with silence and excuses over their rightful dues for months,” he stated.

Stating that the so-called “double engine government” led by the NPP led executive committee in the GHADC in tandem with the ruling part in the state government has turned out to be nothing but a double burden on the common man, the MDC said, “This continued failure of the NPP led Meghalaya government to release the salaries and rightful entitlements of contractual doctors, and teachers appointed under the 3F rules, deficit and SSA patterns and casual employees the NPP led EC failing to pay the employees of the GHADC for more than 40 months now is strongly condemned.”

He said that this clear failure to prioritize the welfare of public servants is in stark contradiction to this government’s readiness to release public funds for consultants and political appointees.

The MDC also asked “If the government claims to have financial constraints, then how is it being able to pay remuneration to political appointees and consultants while ignoring doctors and teachers, and casual employees of certain departments who form the integral spine of governance in Meghalaya?”

“This discriminatory and unjust treatment exposes the true priorities of the present NPP led government and NPP led EC. I call for the immediate release of all pending dues in the state government and the GHADC,” he demanded.
