Northeast gets first urological robot as IUKD Sonapur launches MANTRA 3.0

The Institute of Urology and Kidney Diseases (IUKD), Sonapur, has introduced the Northeast’s first and only dedicated urological robot—MANTRA 3.0—marking a major milestone in advanced healthcare for the region. The announcement was made by Dr. Arup Kumar Nath, CMD and Chief Specialist of Urology & Robotics at IUKD.
IUKD, Assam’s first and only dedicated kidney hospital, will now offer robotic surgery services, enabling precision treatment for complex kidney diseases and urological cancers involving the kidney, bladder, and prostate. On Thursday, the hospital successfully conducted its first robotic surgery using MANTRA 3.0.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Nath—widely known as the “Laser Man of India”—said patients from Assam and the Northeast will no longer need to travel outside the region or abroad for advanced robotic surgeries. “World-class robotic healthcare is now available here in Sonapur,” he said.
Highlighting accessibility, Dr. Nath added that special concessions will be extended to economically weaker patients so they can benefit from robotic surgery as well.
The event was attended by IUKD’s Managing Director Sandhyamika Devi, CEO Debojit Borkakati, eminent urologists Dr. Debojit Baishya and Dr. Barun Kumar, Operations Head Dr. Bikash Choudhury, DMS Dr. Barenya Bora, alongside several doctors, healthcare professionals, and distinguished guests.
