North Liberty ends long drought as new champions crowned in State Subroto Cup 2025

North Liberty Higher Secondary School (West Jaintia Hills) ended their long wait for glory by clinching the Under-17 Boys title at the State Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup 2025. A late header from Lastborn Suting (84’) secured a 1-0 win over Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School (Ri-Bhoi), sending them to their first-ever Subroto Mukherjee Cup Nationals.
The tournament, organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, concluded today at SSA 1st Ground, Polo.
The event was graced by special guests Hamlet Dohling, Adviser to the Chief Minister; Charles Marngar, MLA Mawhati Constituency; John F. Kharshiing, Working President of MSOA; and Assistant Directors of Sports & Youth Affairs P.B. War Nongbri and K. Passah.
The finals showcased thrilling football across all categories. In the Under-15 Boys final, Mawtneng UP & Secondary School (Ri-Bhoi) edged out Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School (West Jaintia Hills) 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

The Under-17 Girls title went to Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School (Ri-Bhoi), who overcame Tyrsad Higher Secondary School (East Khasi Hills) 2-1 in a gripping contest. Goals from Paleimon Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi (19’) and Daphi Syngkli (54’) secured the win after Balabet Khongsit (16’) had put Tyrsad ahead early.
The tournament also recognised outstanding individual performances. The best goalkeepers were Arki Bauni Jalong of Mawtneng UP & Secondary School (U-15 Boys), Rikyntiew Diengdoh of Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School (U-17 Girls), and Namebanlam Nongkseh of Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School (U-17 Boys). The players of the tournament were Pyntngen Nongtri of Mawtneng UP & Secondary School (U-15 Boys), Daphi Syngkli of Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School (U-17 Girls), and Iaisanlang Dohling of North Liberty Higher Secondary School (U-17 Boys).


The packed stadium roared as fans cheered their teams with drums and chants, creating an electric atmosphere as Meghalaya’s representatives prepare for the national Subroto Mukherjee Cup.
