The nominations of eight candidates, including the sitting MP from Kokrajhar, Naba Kumar Sarania were rejected during the scrutiny of nomination conducted on Saturday, officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Sunday.

In the Guwahati constituency, Nayan Das (Bharatiya National Janata Dal) and Aripta Choudhury (Independent) nominations were rejected.

With this, eight candidates are in the fray from Guwahati; They are: Bijuli Kalita Medhi (BJP), Mira Borthakur Goswami, Samad Choudhury (BGP), Sejon Goyari (BMP), Amitabh Sarma (Akom Sanatan Bharat Dal), Deepak Kumar Boro (VPI), Kazi Nekib Ahmed (Independent) and Col Gokul Chandra Singha (Independent).

In the Barpeta constituency, the nomination of an independent candidate was rejected and now 14 candidates are in the fray from this Lok Sabha seat.
