No roster system in place for past 50 years: CM

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday admitted that a roster system has not been put in place while implementing the state reservation policy during the past 50 years. 

After chairing a cabinet meeting, Sangma said, “For the last 50 years (ever) since the reservation policy was there, it (roster system) was not put up. And as the court has directed that this thing has to be looked into so we are examining it now and we are doing our entire homework before we come to the final affidavit/reply to the High Court.”

He however said it was the present state government which had created the first roster system for the people with disabilities (PWDs).

“In fact it was not there for the physically disabled also but it was this government that did that in the past and based on the roster system now there is a proper chart that is followed in that (while implementing the 4% job reservation for the PWDs),” Sangma added.

The cabinet has discussed in detail on the recent order passed by the Meghalaya High Court which stayed all recruitment processes of the state government until a roster system is put in place. 

The chief minister said that the government is still in the mode of preparing the entire reply and the affidavit. 

“We are going to take it up in the next few days again as we did not concluded today. We are still preparing the entire reply. We need to ensure that we do our homework properly so we are in the process of doing that so more information and more details are being collected,” he added.
