Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday said East Khasi Hills District has been categorised as “red-zone” or COVID-19 hotspot.

The district has recorded 10 active COVID-19 cases and one death due to the contagious disease.

After the cabinet meeting here, Tynsong told reporters that the government has decided that there will be no relaxation of the lockdown in East Khasi Hills in view that all the positive cases was recorded in the district.

He informed that the state’s chief secretary MS Rao has been asked to prepare the modalities to relax in other ten districts of the state.

According to him, the ten districts have been categorised as “green zones” since there is no report of any positive case.

The deputy chief minister further informed that the government will soon come out with guidelines on the activities to be exempted from the lockdown.

“The process for classifying districts either allow or deny the relaxation of lockdown will be based on the situation,” he stated.
