The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has prohibited procession or rally within 200 metres radius of the Meghalaya Secretariat Building and Raj Bhavan, Shillong

The prohibitory order issued under Section 144 CrPc has been issued in view of information received that some Organisations will be organizing Demonstrations in different parts of the District.

The order reasoned that such Demonstration if allowed to be held in ‘No Procession or Assembly Zone’ will cause obstruction, hinder the movement of traffic and leads to crowding and congestion, and may also result in disturbance of the public places and tranquility.

The order prohibited any person or group of person for holding demonstration/rally within 200 metres radius of the Meghalaya Secretariat Building and Raj Bhavan, Shillong

The order banned carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons or any other item/materials having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person(s).

This Order will not be applicable to the security forces on duty. Any violation of the said order will attract penal provisions under Section 188 of the IPC
