East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner R.M. Kurbah, IAS has declared the entire stretch from Police Bazaar (Uncle’s Shop), Shillong up to Motphran, Shillong as No Parking Zones with effect from Friday.

Any violation of the No Parking Zone shall be punishable as per law by the appropriate authority, said an order issued on Tuesday.

The Deputy Commissioner observed there is illegal road side parking along the stretch of NH-40 from Police Bazaar (Uncle’s Shop) up to Motphran.

“This has become one of the major contributors towards the worsening traffic situation in Shillong,” the order said.

The Deputy Commissioner asserted that parking along the National Highways is strictly prohibited for all types of vehicles except on parking areas as identified.

Not only this stretch, all the main roads shall be made like this. Also, stoppage of local taxi must be regulated with strict compliance.

What about the red buses parking on the roadside from Assembly’s Library to PB point? That causes the maximum traffic jam.
