AICC in-charge Meghalaya Manish Chatrath today arrived on his maiden visit to the state and said there is no move to oust the incumbent MPCC president, Celestine Lyngdoh.

“There is nothing like this (discussion to change the PCC president). I don’t know from where this has come from…,” Chatrath told reporters after holding a meeting with MLAs and party functionaries.

Chatrath was also felicitated by the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Mukul Sangma.

Asked if Lyngdoh has sought to be relieved from the post, Chatrath said, “No, he has not discussed this with me at all.”

Again when asked if MLAs have proposed Nongthymmai legislator, Charles Pyngrope as the new president of the party, he said, “I have not heard of that sorry.”

On the other hand, the AICC leader said that it was just a general discussion to meet and greet during the meeting.

Asserting the need to strengthen the party in the state, Chatrath said, “Definitely the organization have to be geared up for elections we have to be ready for that but still in Meghalaya I would say we have a good cadre, we have a good team and obviously organization have to be strengthened day in and day out.”

He also denied that there is any rumbling within the Congress party. The AICC leader also stated that he doesn’t see desertion by party MLAs in the past as a big issue.

“…coming and going is part of politics, some people go, some people join, that is an ongoing process I don’t see it as a big issue,” he added.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma informed that Lyngdoh has sought to be relieved as PCC president.

“…I am tempted to share is that our PCC president Dr Celestine Lyngdoh has expressed his desire to get the approval of the high command, the Congress president to get him relieved, in fact he has been speaking to us for quite sometime it is not just now (but since) November, December but anyway, we are all required to shoulder our responsibility as long as possible… we are looking at how collectively we decide to see if he has to be relieved and how best we can do that, those are natural expected lines of discussion, I think you can understand that.”

On some of the MLAs backing Pyngrope as the next PCC president, Sangma however said, “Those are internal things, those are internal party matters how we do we have an inherent system, which has withstood the test of time and we will follow that.”
