  • No headways on Supreme Court’s ruling led to illegal coal mining

    Compelled with non operational of the Supreme Court’s ruling even after ten months of judgment, which lifted the ban on rathole mining, some coal mine owners of Jaintia Hills have started mining of coals though illegally as to meet their both ends.

    This is in evident following a complaint lodged by Divisional Mining Officer, Officer, Jaintia Hills with Jowai Police on Friday, last based on an information provided by Damehi Lamare to the Deputy Commissioner, Jowai.

    Meghalaya: Auctioning of 2 lakh MT coal to start soon

    According to complaint, the officer reported fresh mining and dumping of Coal in Shangpung Khliehrangnah, West Jaintia Hills District by some coal mine owners.

    Police have registered a case and investigation is underway.

    The Supreme Court passed its order on 3/7/2019 lifted ban on rathole mining of coal and order for scientific mining of coals and also ordered auctioning of extracted assessed coal by coal india but none of these have materialised.
