    There has been no incident of death and injury of coal miners in Muriap village in East Jaintia Hills District, according to the interim report submitted by the Single Member Committee before the Meghalaya High Court.

    A media report had alleged death of 3 coal miners and injury to 12 coal miners in Muriap village in East Jaintia Hills District.

    On this, the Single Member Committee had requested the Deputy Commissioner to cause an enquiry and to report. Based on that the Deputy Commissioner directed the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District to cause an inquiry.

    “A report dated 16/02/2024 was thereafter submitted by the Superintendent of Police to the Deputy Commissioner to the effect that no such incident found to have occurred during the enquiry conducted by the O/C Saipung Police Station,” the Committee had stated in its 21st interim report.
