Night Curfew imposed in Indo-Bangladesh’s border along West Jaintia Hills District

In view of the current situation in the country and in order to curb cross border movement by members of proscribed militants’ groups, smugglers and unwanted elements, the District Magistrate West Jaintia Hills District has promulgated Night Curfew from 8 pm to 6 am up to 200 metres from the Zero Line of Indo-Bangladesh’s border along West Jaintia Hills District with immediate effect and will remain in force until further order.
The order was issued as it has been observed that bordering area in West Jaintia Hills District is still unfenced and highly prone to infiltration by illegal migrants, members of organised crime having linkage to anti-national elements including militant groups such that the anti-national elements could gather in large numbers near the International Border during the night hours to continue their nefarious activities.
According to the order issued on May 8th this year, during the period of night curfew movement of people at the International Border with the intention to cross the international boundary with. Bangladesh or sneak into the Indian Territory stand prohibited.
The order banned unauthorised procession or unlawful assembly of 5 (five) or more persons and carrying arms/other instruments which can be used as weapons including sticks & stones in and around the Indo Bangladesh Border.
Further, Illegal, undesirable activities, smuggling of cattle/contraband goods, betel nut, betel leaves, dry fish, biri, cigarettes, chai. Patti etc are also prohibited.
