National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong, a renowned institute known for its innovation in the fashion industry, was proud to announce its annual event, ‘Spectrum’ held on March 8th. The event promised to be a celebration of creativity and talent, which showcased the institution’s brightest designs and creations by its students.

The Spectrum is a testament to NIFT’s commitment to staying at the forefront of emerging trends in the fashion world. This year’s theme, “Navarasa – Ki thwei jingsngew,” explores the spectrum of human emotions, ranging from sadness, darkness, and anger to happiness, contentment, and light. Through this theme, students aimed to capture the complexity and richness of human feelings in their designs.

The annual event started with a traditional lighting of the lamps by senior members of the faculty, followed by a dance from the students.

The SDAC, Dr. Natalie Jo-Anne Diengdoh of the campus gave a brief speech to commemorate the opening the event soon thereafter.

As part of the tradition of the event, a special keynote speech was delivered by the Director, Mr. Shankar Kumar Jha of NIFT Shillong. The keynote speech welcomed all attendees, especially the students from different colleges in the city.

Expected to inspire and enlighten all attendees, Director Jha set the tone by highlighting that the Spectrum, the institution’s most “coveted” event” coincides with International Women’s Day, which Navarasa, the theme of the spectrum, brings empowerment to women in all aspects of life”.

The event also featured a range of club activities organized by student clubs of the institution. The day kicked off with a friendly competitive marathon race and tug of war, followed by creative writing and slam poetry sessions at noon. In the afternoon, guests were treated to an exhilarating battle of the bands, adding a musical flair to the event.

The two day event promises to be a showcase of innovation, artistry, and the diverse range of human emotions expressed through fashion.
