Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) have started the process of retendering the works for two of the five packages of the Shillong-Dawki road project.

This was after the contractors implementing package 1 and package 5 have surrendered the work recently.

“Let us wait till the tendering process is over then we will know who is again getting the work. Right now I can’t say anything as the tendering process is still on,” Tynsong said.

The deputy chief minister admitted that the project is getting delayed because of land acquisition issues. “As far as Meghalaya is concerned, the land tenure system is very peculiar when compared with other states,” he said.
