The Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) and Workers Power Union have demanded that vaccination for Covid-19 should be free for everyone eligible persons of Meghalaya.

“With the shocking withdrawal of the central government led by BJP from ensuring that money does not become a barrier to vaccination and letting the market forces set the price, it is incumbent on our state government to ensure that vaccines are available and accessible to the common citizens as soon as possible,” it said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

TUR also demanded that if the government goes for total lockdown, the government should bring back the income support for daily wage earners including hawkers, street vendors and farmers.

“We also request the government to take local self government institutions into confidence with adequate financial support so that the fight against this second wave becomes a true community fight,” it stated.
