The Non-Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Thursday filed an FIR against an officer of the council for allegedly trying to run over the protesting employees with his vehicle.

In a statement issued here, NGEA president Senora Johny Arengh said an FIR was filed against the Assistant Accounts Officer Glory Hasting R Marak for trying to kill the aggrieved employees by rampaging and trying to run over them.

He said the incident had taken place while the employees were demonstrating their peaceful protest against the non-payment of salary for more than 33 months.

“And as the aggrieved employees were checking the vehicles the employees come across one Glory Hasting R. Marak, and he was asked few questions with regards to stealing and taking away of files on the earlier occasion i.e since 20th May 2021 till 26th May 2021 as he is one of the officer of GHADC who used take away the files to different location.

And  as his voice was not audible the aggrieved employees requested him politely to get out of the car and  to answer what are the files that were  being taken away illegally since 20th may 2021 till date and to where they are taking all the files of GHADC?” Arengh said.

“But shockingly Glory Hasting R. Marak instead of coming out of the car and without responding to the queries of employees run over the employees who were asking the questions and who were standing near his I-20 red car, he just rampaged the employees and try to kill the employees who were standing on the road,” he said.

According to the president, although many escaped, some of the employees including two ladies were seriously injured in the incident.
