The much-awaited plasma bank at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is yet to be made operational due to delay in getting license from the authority concerned.

The matter was brought to the notice of the division bench during a hearing on the PIL related to the COVID-19 scenario in the state on Friday.

The counsel on behalf of NEIGRIHMS, R Dutta informed that the status report on the progress of the establishment of the Plasma Bank could not be made ready and prayed that she be allowed some more time for the same.

She further said that the licensing process is also not complete as the Licensing Authority, which she states is the Assistant Drug Controller, though having completed the inspection has not granted the license to operate till date.

The Advocate General on being queried by the Court as to the veracity of the submissions made by the counsel for NEIGRIHMS, requested that he may be allowed to seek instructions and report to the Court on the next date of hearing which is fixed on October 6.
