SHILLONG: The Inter-Office-cum-Corporate Futsal Competition organized by Futsal Association of Meghalaya (FAM) concluded on Saturday with some brilliant display of skills by the players playing in the competition.

The chief guest of the final was Hering Shangpliang, a former football player and professional football coach, who have coached giants clubs of the state which played at the national level. The chief guest was all praise that FAM have taken the initiative to organize such a competition where the government and corporate employees can take their time out from the usual office work and enjoy themselves playing this beautiful game.

As a professional coach, Shangpliang is of the agreement that playing Futsal is of immense important to making an excellent football player as it develops the skills and agility in a player. In Meghalaya, Shangpliang feels that Futsal is at its nascent stage and urge that the government, FAM and other stakeholders should work together in developing the game so that it can start right from the grass root level. He fully recommended that futsal will help in  developing football as we know many star players in the world started to play this game in their early life before they play the 11 a-side football.

Earlier in the day, four teams fought it out to make it to the finals. The first of the semis was between Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department where MeECL edge them out by 6 goals to 2. The finals saw some sparks from the word go when MeECL took on NEIGRIHMS.

The match was fast paced, good tactical manoeuvre and some hard hitting shots which saw NEIGRIHMS drawing first blood with a goal from Brolington Warlarpih. MeECL did equalize in the latter part of the first half but NEIGRIHMS came back heavily on them in the second part of the match and went on eventually to win the game with a score line of 5:2.
