SHILLONG: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) on Thursday staged an indefinite protest against the delay of the authority concerned to declare the 6th semester results affecting the undergraduate students of the various colleges in the state.

The sit-in-demonstration by leaders of the NEHUSU was held inside the building of the examination block. Some of the placards displayed at the venue read as – “Your failure demands for resignation of vice chancellor,” “Do not gamble with student lives” and “Our career is not a joke”.

The decision was taken after a one-week deadline served to the NEHU authority expired on Wednesday. The NEHUSU has demanded the authority concerned to immediately declare the 6th semester results of the degree courses.

Adviser of the union Rangdajied Marwein told reporters that the Pro vice chancellor Prof H Lamin in a meeting with the leaders of the Union today had assured that the results will be declared either by tonight or by tomorrow.

“However, we have decided to continue with our indefinite protest till the results are declared as well as a resolution be passed that from now onwards the results should be declared within the first week of July every year,” he said.

Marwein said on failing to comply with the demand, the union would be compelled to further intensify the agitation with the support of other student organizations adding aggrieved undergraduate students will also take part in the protest tomorrow.

Asked, the adviser said that Prof Lamin has cited failure of some of the colleges to submit the papers as the reason behind the delay in declaring the results.

While the results for the post graduates have been declared earlier as compared to the previous years, the results for UG has been delayed as compare to the previous year.
This has hindered the students from applying and getting admitted in various universities within and outside Shillong.

The union takes this as a failure in the system which had negatively affected the students that wishes to pursue higher studies, Marwein said.

Meanwhile, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) education cell has decided to meet the Controller of Examination, NEHU to seek clarification on the matter, tomorrow.
