NEHUSU president arrested in teacher assault case

President of the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) Sandy Sohtun was arrested on Monday for his alleged involvement in the assault of an assistant professor of the university’s Hindi department.
Confirming this, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said that the NEHUSU has been taken into police custody following an FIR filed by the teacher.
Asked, the SP said that investigation has started and all those involved in the assault incident will be arrested.
The incident took place on April 24.
Assistant professor Hindi department Dr Alok Singh said in his FIR submitted before the Officer Incharge Mawkynroh outpost on April 25: “I am deeply saddened to inform you that on April 24, at around 4.45pm, the president of NEHUSU, along with five accomplices, forcibly locked me inside my chamber in the department.
During this incident, they physically assaulted me and threatened to kill me by holding a scissor to my neck.”
The FIR has also mentioned five others who were involved in assaulting the teacher.
