The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Friday constituted a fact finding committee to investigate into the ragging incident against a student at the Tura campus of the University.

This came after a complaint was received from the Naga Students’ Union (NSU) on a ragging incident against its member, who is studying in the Tura campus. The incident took place on October 8.

An official statement said that fact finding committee will be headed by the Dean of the School of Human & Environmental Sciences Prof Lucy Zehol.

“Prof Zehol is a respected member of our faculty with extensive experience in handling sensitive matters and ensuring fair and unbiased investigations,” it said.

Prof  Lucy Zehol will be leaving for NEHU Tura Campus to begin the investigation immediately.

The committee will work diligently to uncover all the facts surrounding the incident, identify the culprits, and establish the truth of the matter.

The statement said that NEHU maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of ragging or harassment within the University.

“If the incident is found to be true, the culprits will be subject to strict disciplinary measures in accordance with both the University’s regulations and the relevant laws of the country,” it said.

Further, the NEHU authority also extended its support to the victim of this incident and assure them that the University is committed to providing them with any necessary assistance, including counseling and ensuring their safety and well-being.

“We would like to emphasize that the NEHU is fully committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all its students and staff members. Such incidents go against our core values and principles, and we will do everything in our power to address this situation effectively and prevent any such incidents in the future,” it said while urging all concerned to come forward with any information or concerns related to this incident or any other issue affecting the well-being of students.

“We will continue to work together to ensure a respectful and secure educational environment for all. We will keep the public and media updated on the progress of the investigation and the actions taken as a result of its findings,” the NEHU authority assured.
