NEAU marks GYD with blood donation

A blood donation camp was organized at the Nursing College of North East Adventist University (NEAU) today as part of the Global Youth Day (GYD) 2025 celebrations. Themed “ACT: A Community Transformed,” the event saw 38 volunteers stepping forward, with 33 successfully donating blood to support the Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Bank.
Global Youth Day, an initiative of the Youth Department of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has been celebrated worldwide since March 13, 2013, encouraging young people to engage in community service. This year, the NEAU Church’s Youth Department led various activities, including a cleanliness drive, an environmental workshop, health camps, visits to hospitals and jails, de-addiction centers, tree planting, and the blood donation camp.
The camp was organized in collaboration with the NEAU Youth Department, the District Legal Services Authority of West Jaintia Hills District, and the Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Bank. The initiative underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation in strengthening healthcare systems.
Dr. Ibansara Khyriem, Director in-charge of Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Bank, expressed gratitude to the donors and organizers, stating, “The contributions of these young volunteers are invaluable. Their selfless act will help save lives and ensure the blood bank remains well-stocked for emergencies.”
Most of the donors were students and staff from the university, eager to contribute to the noble cause. One participant remarked, “Donating blood is a simple yet impactful act. I am grateful for my health, which allows me to help those in need.”
The success of the blood donation camp reflects the essence of Global Youth Day, inspiring young people to lead initiatives that transform communities. Through such collective action, NEAU has set an example of service and compassion, reinforcing the spirit of youth-led social change.
