    As a part of celebration of the 50th year of Statehood of Meghalaya, the Department of Physics, Shillong College organized a National Webinar on the theme “From Basic Science to Nanotechnology” on the 17th December, 2021.

    The resource persons include, Professor Ayon Bhattacharjee, renowned academician and researcher from the National Institute of Technology, Shillong, Meghalaya and Dr. Alisten Mawrie, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The two back-to-back technical sessions was chaired by Dr. R. Das, HOD, Physics, St. Edmund’s College, Shillong.

    Through his presentation and deliberation on the topic “Nano-The Power of Small” Prof. Ayon Bhattacharjee impressed upon students the importance of this field and thus arouses the curiosity of the young minds to provoke their thoughts towards research and innovations especially in the field of Nanotechnology.

    Dr. Alisten Mawrie, who is an expert in the field of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics presented an insightful talk on “Nanotechnology: Through the Lens of Optoelectronics and Quantum Computations” in which he introduced to the participants the new field of Research on Quantum Computing that will have an immense impact and change the technological world in the near future.

    Both the sessions were followed by interactions with students who put forth a range of questions on the topics presented. The Webinar was followed by informal interaction of the Resource Persons with the Faculties of Science Departments and students of the College.
