    Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, inaugurated the District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign today at the training hall of the DC Office, Jowai.

    The campaign was jointly organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and the District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai, in collaboration with registered NGOs and selected members funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The initiative is themed “Substance Abuse – Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation.”

    Addressing the urgent need to combat substance abuse in the community, Abhinav Kumar Singh stressed the importance of collective action and community participation. He expressed hope that through this initiative and with collaborative efforts across all departments, West Jaintia Hills can become a Nasha Mukt district, contributing to a drug-free India.

    He also outlined various programmes to be undertaken during the campaign, including a drawing competition, marathon, and street play. Awareness programmes will also be conducted across the district to engage and educate people of all age groups.

    Additional Superintendent of Police Ishan Gupta, IPS, highlighted the growing crisis of drug abuse, stating that it is not only a national concern but is also deeply affecting local communities in both urban and rural areas of the district. He emphasised the need for urgency and collective resolve in addressing this issue.

    The campaign will be carried out in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Police Department, District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Sports Department, and NGO groups such as Breakthrough, Khliehtyrshi; Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE); and Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA), Jowai.

    Also present at the programme were Chibait Langstang, Brand Ambassador of the Nasha Mukt Campaign; Dr. J.N. Chullai, Director of MCSWA; C.S. Laloo, retired Controller, Legal Metrology, Jowai; and Y. Najiar, District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai.
