Nangkiew Irat come from behind to defeat Nongrim Hills 3–1 in SPL 2025 opener

The Shillong Premier League 2025 kicked off with high drama as Nangkiew Irat came from behind to defeat Nongrim Hills 3–1 in a rain-soaked season opener on Wednesday.
Caldolan Kharmawphlang gave Nongrim Hills the lead in the 13th minute after capitalising on a loose ball from a corner. Nangkiew Irat, however, levelled the score just before halftime through an own goal by Nongrim captain Bankit Nongrum, who inadvertently deflected a cross into his own net.
The second half saw Nangkiew Irat take control. Jefferson Pakyntein made it 2–1 in the 60th minute, heading in after a failed clearance by the goalkeeper. Just two minutes later, Himanshu Patil added the third with a powerful strike following a defensive lapse.
Despite heavy rain throughout the match, both teams showed determination and attacking intent. Nangkiew Irat’s ability to bounce back and dominate the second half set the tone for what promises to be an exciting season.
Before kick-off, players and officials were greeted by members of the Shillong Sports Association, led by its president and MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh.
SPL 2025 action continues Thursday, with Sawmer taking on last year’s runners-up Mawlai at 5:30 PM.
