United Naga Council (UNC), an apex body of Nagas in Manipur on Friday banned Congress MP Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur and two other individuals from public platforms and holding any position or leadership in the Naga society for seven years with immediate effect.

Two other individuals are S Kho John and Dr Alluson Abonmal who had contested the recently-concluded Lok Sabha election from the Outer Manipur constituency.

In a public notification issued by UNC information and publicity secretary H James Hau said: “Under the resolution number 1 adopted by the UNC its ’emergency assembly’ held on May 29 at Town Hall, Panchai in Chandel district, Manipur, three individuals – Kho John of Poumai tribe, Alyson Abonmai of Liangmai tribe, and Alfred Kanngnam Arthur of Tangkhul tribe, are hereby debarred from public platforms, and holding any position or leadership in the Naga society for seven years with immediate effect.”

“The three individuals purposively defied and failed to respect and honour to the position of the United Naga Council in the recently concluded 18th Lok Sabha General Election, 2024 and their willful attempt to challenge the Naga peoples’ position and its spirit of unity,” the statement said.

“All the constituent units, subordinate and associate units of the council and Naga populace are directed to uphold the resolution of the UNC and enforce accordingly in their respective jurisdiction,” the statement added.
