NABARD marks 44th foundation day by honouring rural changemakers in Assam

NABARD’s Assam Regional Office marked its 44th foundation day with a ceremony recognizing rural champions who have made significant contributions to grassroots development in the state.
Held at the NABARD office, the event spotlighted leading figures in Assam’s rural transformation. Honourees included Padmashri Sarbeswar Basumatary, seed conservationist Mohan Chandra Bora, and Assam Gaurav awardee Upendra Rabha, known for pioneering the cultivation of black rice. Their work has uplifted local communities and advanced sustainable agricultural practices.

Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora attended as chief guest, joined by senior officials, bankers, and development professionals. NABARD also recognized several top-performing Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) for their role in strengthening the rural economy.
General Manager Qamar Javed reaffirmed NABARD’s commitment to empowering rural Assam, stating, “We continue to support institutions that are the foundation of our agrarian economy. Our goal is to build resilient, self-reliant rural communities.”

Two publications were launched during the event: Sahakar-se-Samriddhi – Prospering Together, which showcases 14 PACS success stories, and a digital flipbook on NABARD’s plantation drive Ek Ped Maa ke Naam, part of the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives.
This year’s celebration underscored NABARD’s long-standing mission — taking rural India forward through inclusive growth and sustainable development.
