In a resounding celebration of International Women’s Day, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), in conjunction with the North East Institute of Professional Studies (NeIPS), held a two-day exhibition and sale extravaganza at the picturesque Trot Sing Ground in Mairang.

Under the theme, “Count Her: In Accelerating Gender Equality through Economic Empowerment,” the event served as a platform to spotlight the indomitable spirit and entrepreneurial prowess of women across Meghalaya.

With 50 meticulously curated stalls, attendees were treated to a diverse array of products ranging from locally sourced agricultural produce to intricately crafted handloom and handicrafts, exemplifying the rich tapestry of talents within the region.

Beyond the commercial aspect, the exhibition also served as an educational hub, with informative displays such as an irrigation model presented by the Soil and Water Conservation Department, Kisan Vigyan Kendra (KVK), and an information center established by the Meghalaya Regional Rural Bank (MRB) and the State Bank of India.

These initiatives aimed to equip attendees, particularly farmers, with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance their agricultural practices.

Present at the event were Gideon Kharmawphlang, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills, and Dr. Prabudutta Sahoo, General Manager, NABARD’s Meghalaya Regional Office, Phila Nongkynrih, DDM, NABARD, Michael Thongni, CCEO, NeIPS among others.

In a poignant gesture, NABARD and NeIPS took the opportunity to honor and felicitate outstanding women in various fields including sports, self-help groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and women farmers.

The culmination of the event was marked by a captivating fashion show, showcasing the talent and creativity of women trainees from NeIPS.
