Muster roll workers appeal for timely release of wages ahead of Behdienkhlam

The All Jaiñtia Muster Roll Workers & Labour Union (CEC), Jowai, on Tuesday appealed to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is also in charge of the Finance Department, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbha Dhar, and Commissioner & Secretary (Finance) Dr Vijay Kumar to release and credit the wages for the month of June 2025, along with the pending arrears of the revised base rate effective from October 1, 2023.
The Union stated that daily minimum wage workers engaged in various government departments across Meghalaya, particularly in the Jaiñtia region, continue to face financial hardship due to non-payment of dues.
They emphasised that the timely release of payments would allow workers—especially followers of the indigenous Niamtre faith under Seinraij Jowai and Seinraij Tuber in East Jaiñtia Hills—to celebrate the upcoming Behdienkhlam festival with dignity.
The Union also urged the government to ensure future wage disbursements before key religious festivals such as Durga Puja and Christmas, to ease the burden on workers dependent on daily wages.
