Mukul demands CRB to reconduct written exams for Meghalaya police recruitment

Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday demanded reconducting of the written examination to the different categories of posts in the Meghalaya police following alleged failure of the central recruitment board (CRB) to conform to parameters for ensuring integrity of the whole recruitment process.
“I will be writing to the chairman of the CRB Meghalaya Police to this effect to ensure…as far as the written examination for this recruitment for different categories of posts is concerned must be reconducted,” Sangma told reporters.
His demand came after the CRB had on June 3 issued a press release requesting candidates to submit applications, complaints, petitions, representations or any other issues pertaining to the recently concluded written test on or before June 6, 2025, which according to him is contradicting the notification dated March 6, 2024 which clearly stated in para 18 – “The candidates will be summarily rejected at any stages of recruitment process for not conforming to the official format/having incomplete information/wrong information/incomplete submission of certificates/misrepresentation of facts/impersonation and necessary legal action will be initiated in such cases as applicable.”
The CRB in its press release had stated, “…as the written test has been successfully completed, the CRB office is contemplating on the careful examination of answer scripts and OMR sheets f all the different nine examinations, with an aim to speed up the process in order to declare result early. However, due to pouring applications requesting correction of wrongly entered roll nos, series, etc, the process is slowed down.”
“Who has called for this application? Is there any provision for the candidates to submit any petition in that regard to that direction? Does the recruitment policy provide this?” Sangma questioned.
“I have not seen such recruitment which has been defiled by this kind of intervention. It is an intervention in the whole recruitment process. Who has given this order to the chairman of the CRB or is it his own decision? Where has it indicated in the notice that in the event of candidates not having furnished correct roll number or etc will be able to submit any further petition for correction?” he further asked.
“This whole exercise resorted to by the CRB of Meghalaya police have failed to instill trust and confidence and have failed to conform to all parameters required to fulfill by them in the whole process in as far as ensuring the integrity in the recruitment process,” he said adding “The process must be declared null and void in as far as the written exams are concerned and the competing candidates must be called to appear this written exam afresh.”
The former chief minister further alleged that the government of scripting such modus operandi to engage in nepotism and favouritism in the whole process of recruitment saying, “(the incident has generated) various narratives in social media.”
“I have gone through the comments which came out as an offshoot of this press release of the CRB where there are allegations in some of the recruitment, the people on duty at the time of this written examination in some of the centres were found assisting the competing candidates…,” he said while demanding the authorities concerned to take cognizance of such allegations.
“Therefore, it is our responsible to see that this allegation in the whole process of recruitment which should have its sanctity and confidence of the people particularly the competing candidates should not be somehow subject to this doubt and therefore suspicion and the result in the questioning of the whole integrity of the recruitment process, “he added further.
