    Vehicular movement in National Highway 6 along East Jaintia Hills District has once again come to standstill for the third time this month on Monday morning.

    Police said due to heavy downpour on the morning has resulted in fresh Mudslides at Sonapur Tunnel on NH06. Clearing work is underway.

    The second mudslide on the same location was just three days back from the present mudslide and it was precisely on September 16, last.

    The police posted in their Facebook page, “Fresh Mud Slide near Sonapur Tunnel, vehicular movement is still open, however commuters are advised to drive with caution and again needless to say please DO NOT OVERTAKE.”

    The first Mudslide at Sonapur Tunnel on NH06 was as on 8.00 PM of September 6, last.

    Police posted in their facebook page, “Work to clear the debris from Sonapur Tunnel is going on in earnest . We will update on the progress being made from time to time. Commuters are requested to kindly be patient.”

    It took the District Administration two days to clear the debris on the highway.

    Police posted in their facebook page at 10:00 am of September 8, last, “Sonapur Tunnel is All Clear n Good to Go. Happy Commuting n Drive Safe.”

    Concerned citizens of the areas wondered when will the Meghalaya Govt depute a specialized team to ascertain the exact cause of the mudslide and go for permanent remedy.
