A total of 8,581 out of 13,940 candidates have cleared the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET) for lower primary and 7,674 out of 12,136 for upper primary.

The results were declared to the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) on Wednesday.

“The pass percentage has improved from 8.11% in 2023 to 61.56% for lower primary and 9.27% to 63.23% for upper primary, for MTET 2025,” DERT said in a statement.

“61.56% (LP) and 63.23% (UP) pass rates reflect the highest-ever MTET performance in the period from 2019-2025,” it added.

The significant improvement in candidate performance was following a four-month, evidence-based reform initiative.

Recognizing the extremely low pass rates of MTET 2023, the DERT’s examination cell undertook a systematic review of the assessment framework, guided by a team of faculty having experience in student measurement and assessments.

The key interventions included: competency-based syllabus redesign, rigorous stakeholder capacity building, transparent assessment blueprints and enhanced validity and reliability.

In 2019, the pass percent was 16.29% for LP, 20.12% for UP and in 2021 – 15.40% for LP, 26.20% for UP.
