The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan School Association (MSSASA) on Friday sought clarification on the issue pertaining to Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) – 2021 certificate for Upper Primary category.

In a letter to the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) Director, JP Lakiang, President of the Association Aristotle C Rymbai said, “I humbly request your esteem office to clarify on the matter as why errors persist in issuing the MTET certificate for MTET passed candidates-2021 for Upper Primary category which was not at par with the NCTE guidelines and Education Department, Govt of Meghalaya Notification for conducting MTET.”

He said the association has received multiple complaints from 2021 MTET passed candidates for upper primary category that their names was listed in the list of unqualified candidates who are not entitled to obtain the MTET certificate and reason being stated – “in-service but below 45% in Degree” displayed in the Notice Board of the respective DIETs.

Rymbai however said that NCTE guidelines for conducting Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issued to all secretaries/commissioners of education of state governments/UTs and the Meghalaya education department’s notification dated April 22, 2021 for conducting the MTET for elementary school teachers had stated, “the minimum qualification to be eligible to apply for MTET – 2021 for Class VI – VIII (Upper Primary category) is Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).”

“(Referring to the) facts and notifications, it is very clear that candidates who acquired below 45% in Graduation/Degree are eligible and entitled to obtain the MTET Certificate and the reason stated “In-service Below 45% in Degree are not qualified” stand null and void,” he stated.
